A pet bear named Teddy killed Kelly Ann Walz, 37, as she tried to clean its cage, authorities said.
She and her husband had raised the black bear from a cub at their menagerie in Ross Township, a rural area about 30 miles northeast of Allentown. She also cared for a mountain lion and a tiger.
On Sunday night, when she went into Teddy’s 15-by-15-foot steel and concrete cage, the 350-pound bear attacked. Walz’s two young children and neighbor children saw the mauling and summoned help. Neighbor Scott Castone killed the bear with a handgun.
Walz was pronounced dead at the scene.
