Jon Caramanica makes the common mistake [“Even ‘Entourage’ Understands Its Limits,” Oct. 4] of confusing who the actual protagonist of “Entourage” is and it’s certainly not Vincent Chase. In fact, Vince is basically the MacGuffin, deliberately vague and ambiguous.

On one level the entire crew (including Ari) is the protagonist. After all, the show is indeed called “Entourage.” Each functions as part of an intrinsic whole to further Vince’s career. But the hidden-in-plain-sight main character of “Entourage” is Kevin Connolly’s Eric “E” Murphy. His is the only fully developed character who has grown each season. He is the one to whom most of the audience relates. The series is about how he has learned to hold his own in the industry and step out of Vincent’s shadow.
