Brad Keselowski hangs on to beat Kyle Busch

Brad Keselowski held off points leader Kyle Busch on the final lap to win the Kroger On Track For the Cure 250 in a green-white-checker finish in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race.

Keselowski was leading at Memphis Motorsports Park in Tennessee when a caution came out with two laps to go because Stephen Wallace spun after tangling with Matt Kenseth. Wallace banged into Kenseth’s car after the race and the two had words on pit road.

Keselowski held on to the lead through the overtime segment. Busch finished second and leads Carl Edwards by 215 points in the standings.

NASCAR trucks

Timothy Peters took the lead when Denny Hamlin pitted on the 117th lap and won the NASCAR truck series race at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. It is the first career victory for Peters, who lives in nearby Danville.

Peters stopped only once in the 200-lap race, after just 33 laps, and led the final 84 laps, holding off Todd Bodine over three restarts to cruise to the win by 1.815 seconds.

Superbike

American Ben Spies has set a World Superbike record by winning his 11th pole of the season, in Portimao, Portugal. The Yamaha rider also set a track record at the 2.7-mile, 12-turn Portimao Circuit with a time of 1 minute 42.412 seconds in qualifying for the final round of the World Superbike Championship.

The pole gives the 25-year-old World Superbike rookie the upper hand over championship rival Noriyuki Haga of Japan.

Irwindale

Rod Johnson Jr. of Canyon Country beat Pat Mintey Jr. to the finish line, winning the NASCAR King Taco Super Trucks 100-lap feature race and clinching his first division championship at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale.

Johnson and Mintey were tied for the division points lead before the race, and Mintey finishing second in the points standings.
