Adam Scott wins by a stroke in the Texas Open

Adam Scott made the Texas Open his first PGA Tour victory in two years, shooting a combined 11-under 133 in a 36-hole finale Sunday to edge Fredrik Jacobson by a stroke.

The 2008 Byron Nelson Classic winner, Scott overcame two early bogeys with an eagle on the par-four 17th in his third-round 66, then built his lead with six birdies en route to a closing 67 on the new Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio.

Scott finished at 14-under 274 for his seventh tour victory.

Scott rallied from four strokes back — and bogeys on two of his first three holes — before settling down in the long final day. More than three inches of rain had washed out Friday’s round, setting up Sunday’s 36-hole marathon.

Ernie Els, Aaron Baddeley and Jimmy Walker tied for third at 12 under.

Se Ri Pak ended a three-year victory drought with a birdie on the third playoff hole to beat Brittany Lincicome in the rain-shortened — and delayed — Bell Micro LPGA Classic at Mobile, Ala.

Suzann Pettersen also made the playoff but bogeyed the second hole on the par-four, 402-yard 18th and headed to the clubhouse at the Crossings Course at Magnolia Grove on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

Dan Forsman made an eagle and four consecutive birdies on the way to winning the Regions Charity Classic by three strokes at Hoover, Ala.

Forsman had a pair of late bogeys to shoot 66 on Sunday, following a tournament-record 62 the day before at Ross Bridge. He finished at 20 under, ahead of Joe Ozaki (66) and Peter Senior (68) at 17-under 199.

Barcelona, Messi capture Spanish title

Lionel Messi equaled Barcelona’s scoring record by netting two goals in the final match of the season to help the club retain the Spanish league title at Madrid.

Argentina forward Messi struck in the 62nd and 76th minutes of Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Valladolid at Camp Nou Stadium to take his league tally to 34 goals — and his total in all competitions to 47.

Brazil striker Ronaldo scored the same amount of goals for the club in the 1996-97 season.

American sprinter Tyson Gay broke a 44-year-old record for 200 meters run on a straight track.

Gay ran 19.41 seconds into a slight headwind on a specially constructed track at Manchester, England, shaving 0.09 off the mark Tommie Smith set in May 1966 at San Jose.
