Orange County: Shop, or just unwind, for $199 a night at Fairmont Newport Beach

Now that summer’s over, here’s an excuse to go shopping or maybe just lie around the pool at the Fairmont Newport Beach, which is offering breakfast for two, a $40 food credit and more extras for $199 per night
The deal: The Retail Therapy Package includes valet parking; free shuttle to and from Fashion Island or South Coast Plaza; a $40 credit for food and beverages; breakfast for two; and a late checkout (4 p.m.). The total, excluding tax, comes to $199 per night at the sleek, 440-room hotel in Orange County.
When: The package is available Fridays through Sundays indefinitely, based on availability.
Tested: I like this deal because it gives you a break on weekend rates instead of the usual midweek savings offered by hotels. Even though the package is supposed to appeal to your inner shopper, I think it’s more about catering to your inner diner: You get a free breakfast (through room service or at the hotel’s restaurant, bambú) and the credit for a second meal (also through room service or at bambú).
I checked online and found a room on Oct. 30 with a king-sized bed or two doubles at the $199 pretax package rate. Though the same room on the same night at the best available rate went for $139 pre-tax, you save more than 20% with the package when you add on the parking (worth $28), food credit ($40) and breakfast for two (worth $46).
