10 plants that best tolerate it hot, hot, hot!

Here are some of my plants that thrive in the hot heat and dry soil. Even my hydrangeas, which benefited from a cool spring with lots of rain, are doing OK in this heatwave. These photos were taken during the day of 100-degree heat Saturday, July 7; I’ve watered the gardens once during this heat spell. I plan to put in more heat- and drought-tolerant perennials/shrubs this fall, especially species from the September native plant sales at the Virginia Living Museum. -- Kathy Van Mullekom
