Julianne Hough talks Ryan Seacrest breakup, new love in Redbook

Julianne Hough gave the lowdown on her failed relationship with radio host and TV personality Ryan Seacrest.
The “Dancing With the Stars” alum, who’s currently doing her “Move Live” dance tour with her brother Derek Hough, dated the hyphenate “American Idol” host for three years before news broke in March 2013 that they had parted ways, not surprisingly, citing their busy schedules.
Also not surprising: It turns out there was more to it than that.
“Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right,” Hough told Redbook, whose August issue she covers. “I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers. I needed to be perfect.”
The “Safe Haven” star began dating hockey player Brooks Laich, 31, in December 2013.
“But now I’m not holding anything back, because I’d rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love,” the 25-year-old added. “If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?”
The self-proclaimed feminist said she had an epiphany that changed her outlook on her relationships when her family went to a six-day seminar about creating your own destiny last November.
“I was not into it at first, but I learned so much about myself and why my relationships didn’t work that by the end I was on a high,” Hough said. “I was seeing a couple people, but immediately [pretends to text guys], ‘You are nice, but this is going nowhere.’ The next day my ‘Curve’ costar introduced [Brooks and me]. It couldn’t have been a better time. We’ve been open and honest from Day 1.”
Redbook hits newsstands July 8.
