Katherine Jenkins OK, sore after ‘DWTS’ injury; will she be cut?

Katherine Jenkins of “Dancing With the Stars” may have been the one who got hurt, but the Welsh mezzo-soprano was the one offering comfort in the aftermath to fans who’d seen her in tears after freezing up in pain during a back-bend dance move on national TV on Monday night.

“Morning all...,” Jenkins said early Tuesday on Twitter. “Thanks for your tweets of support & concern. The good news is that I’m feeling better, just a little sore #OnwardsAndUpwards.”

While seeing a doctor Monday night after the show, she’d tweeted thanks to followers for their concern, explaining that she’d suffered a spasm in her lower back at the end of her vigorous Arabian-themed salsa.

“sry guys we couldn’t finish R dance,” partner Mark Ballas tweeted Monday. “Katherine hurt her back, I tried my best not let her fall at the end :) hope we still have ur votes.” Tuesday morning, he wrote that he’d woken up “Feelin a little nervous.”

The couple got some star-power support as well, with “DWTS” alum Kirstie Allie tweeting Monday to her nearly 200,000 followers, “@KathJenkins NEEDS our votes tonight!! It’s not about the last second of ONE dance ...it’s about the LONG HAUL! FINALE!!! LETS vote for HER!”

Opera singer Jenkins, who started out the “DWTS” season as a relative unknown to U.S. audiences, stood out almost immediately after delivering consistently knockout performances on the dance floor with Ballas.

Then last week saw a glitch – the “Welsh wiggler” had a wardrobe malfunction, albeit not of the trashy kind. Rather, she found herself powering through a cha-cha trio with part of a tear-away pair of pants stuck around her ankle. She opted to carry on as if nothing odd was doing on, and was rewarding with a total judges’ score of 29.

“After such a strange night, we were very worried about the double elimination,” she blogged for Parade last week. With middle-of-the-pack scores, they found themselves “in jeopardy” before escaping the week’s double elimination. “If I’m completely honest, Mark & I really thought we were out (I had even packed my suitcase to get on the red eye for the [“Good Morning America”] performance in New York that all eliminated couples do).”

Instead, Melissa Gilbert and partner Maks Chmerkovskiy and Roshon Fegan and partner Chelsie Hightower wound up getting the ax from the ABC competition.

Jenkins, who found herself and Ballas at the bottom of a very tight semi-finals leader board at the end of Monday’s show, will make it to next week’s finals only if fan votes propel her past another competitor.
