Alien Sigourney Weaver launched the franchise with this 1979 science-fiction thriller as Ellen Ripley, an officer aboard an interplanetary mineral-hauling spaceship that answers an apparent call for help and ends up with a monstrous stowaway. The sight of an unfortunate crew member (John Hurt) giving birth to the alien’s spawn is one of the cinema’s most famous gross-out scenes. Tom Skerritt also stars, 6 p.m. AMC. The 1986 sequel, “Aliens,” follows at 8.

The Mistletoe Promise The holiday movie season is well underway with this new romance about a chance meeting between two strangers (Jaime King, Luke Macfarlane) who discover that they share disdain for the Christmas season. Based on a book by Richard Paul Evans. 8 p.m. Hallmark

How to Be Single Fresh out of a long-term relationship, a recent college graduate (Dakota Johnson) moves to New York and befriends a partying co-worker (Rebel Wilson) at a legal firm who shows her how to have fun in this 2016 romantic comedy adapted from a book of the same title by Liz Tuccillo. With Alison Brie, Leslie Mann, Damon Wayans Jr., Anders Holm and Jake Lacy. 8 p.m. HBO

Who Killed JonBenét? Nearly 20 years after a murder that dominated headlines across America, this new docudrama revisits the events and investigation surrounding the death of petite junior beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey (Payton Lepinski), which remains unsolved today. Michel Gill and Julia Campbell play the victim’s parents, both of whom emerged as suspects during the proceedings, and Eion Bailey stars as Steve Thomas, lead detective on the case, 8 p.m. Lifetime. The new special “JonBenét’s Mother: Victim or Killer?” follows at 10.

400 Days To see whether four potential young astronauts (Brandon Routh, Caity Lotz, Ben Feldman and comic Dane Cook) have the right stuff for a space mission, they’re confined together a tight underground quarters intended to simulate a spaceship in this 2015 thriller. 9 p.m. Syfy
