Rosie O’Donnell is returning to ‘The View,’ ABC confirms

She’s back! Rosie O’Donnell is returning to ABC’s “The View” after a seven-year hiatus.

The former panelist fills one of the three spots vacated by Sherri Shepherd, controversial co-host Jenny McCarthy and the recently retired Barbara Walters, who exited the show in May. The only remaining co-host was moderator Whoopi Goldberg.

The confirmation came via the show’s official Twitter account early Thursday morning.

“It’s official! ABC confirms Rosie O’Donnell returns as co-host of #TheView w/ moderator Whoopi Goldberg for Season 18,” the tweet said, sharing a snapshot of the former host.

O’Donnell co-hosted the show from 2005 to 2007, when she exited following a heated feud with former co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. O’Donnell then returned to the table as a guest on the show in February.

ABC teased to a major overhaul of the talk show in late June upon Shepherd and McCarthy’s exit. Shepherd was unable to reach a contract agreement with the network and McCarthy, who was only on the talker for one season, announced that she’d be leaving too.

“‘The View’ will be moving in an exciting new direction next year, and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” the network said in a late June statement.

However, no time frame for upcoming announcements has been given.

The female-moderated talker has also seen intense competition from “The Talk,” the rival series on CBS hosted by Julie Chen, Sheryl Underwood, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne and Aisha Tyler.
