More feedback on the greenback

FROM experience, using U.S. dollars is not “provincial and self-centered” but preferred in many countries [Letters, Jan. 30]. The locals can get a much better exchange rate than we at the banks and hotels, and they end up with more money. This was particularly true in Vietnam, where many times a merchant asked for greenbacks rather than Vietnamese dong. Also the tour company suggested that we tip all our tour guides in dollars.
