A motorist was killed Friday morning after his vehicle ran into a semi-truck parked on the side of the 405 Freeway and burst into flames, according to fire and police reports.
The crash occurred just after 7 a.m. in Sherman Oaks when the car hit the big rig that was on the shoulder of the northbound freeway due to mechanical problems.
The semi-truck was not occupied at the time of the crash, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The driver of the car, an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Fire Department said in a news release.
The California Highway Patrol temporarily closed all lanes of the 405 for about 10 minutes after the crash while firefighters put out the fire, said Officer Tony Polizzi of the CHP’s Transportation Management Center.
There are now two lanes closed, he said.
