Reporting from San Diego — A body found washed up on the beach early Thursday in Oceanside is thought to be that of a 22-year-old man carried away by a wave off Carlsbad the night before, officials said.
Two brothers were walking in the shallow water off Carlsbad State Beach when one was swept away, according to the Carlsbad Fire Department. A lengthy search by lifeguards and the U.S. Coast Guard was unsuccessful. The body was discovered Thursday morning.
The county medical examiner will determine the identity and cause of death, officials said.
