Motorists trying to exit the 2 Freeway in Echo Park were trapped in their cars for more than 2-1/2 hours Saturday morning after police received a report of a possible explosive near the freeway entrance.
A Caltrans crew found an object resembling a grenade at 8:20 a.m. while cleaning an area near Allesandro Street, Los Angeles police Sgt. Juan Campos said. Workers summoned officers, who called in a bomb squad.
The bomb squad determined the object was a prop and the roadway was reopened at about 11 a.m., Campos said.
