Palmdale sheriff’s deputies rescued a wounded woman from inside a Palmdale residence, then hours later found the suspected shooter inside, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident began early Friday morning when deputies responded to a phoned report of a shooting in the 37700 block of Christensen Court, according to Lt. Darren Harris with the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
The caller said that a woman had been hit by gunfire and that she was inside the house along with the suspected male gunman and two teenage boys.
As deputies arrived, the teen boys ran from the house and reported that the woman was unresponsive near the front door.
Deputies located the bleeding woman and carried her more than 50 yards to where Los Angeles County firefighters were waiting to provide care. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for a gunshot wound. She was listed in serious condition.
The suspected shooter barricaded himself inside the home. Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and a crisis negotiation team responded. Their attempts to contact the suspect were unsuccessful. The team at one point deployed a robot to check the location.
About nine hours after the initial call, deputies entered the house and found the suspect dead. The suspect’s identity was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
One of the teen boys is the biological son of the female victim. The other was a family friend who had been living at the house. Neither was related to the gunman.
