A man suspected of trying to evade police by hiding in an air duct was arrested early Sunday on the roof of a supermarket in Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach police responded to a burglar alarm at the Albertsons at Atlanta Avenue and Magnolia Street at 1:23 a.m. Officers on the ground found no suspects, but officers in a helicopter detected a heat source on the roof, Huntington Beach police said.
City firefighters used a truck and ladder to get a police officer onto the roof, where authorities found Dewayne Lee Contreras, 52, in an air duct of the building, police said.
Contreras had to be hoisted off using a rescue blanket and a firetruck ladder, police said.
Contreras was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
