Obama headed to West Coast fund-raisers after gay marriage decision

One day after he announced a reversal of his position on same-sex marriage, President Obama heads to the West Coast for fund-raising events in Seattle and Los Angeles.

His first public comments since the ABC News interview revealing his position will come at a fund-raiser at Seattle’s Paramount Theater at 6 p.m. PDT. General admission tickets for the event started at $1,000.

Earlier he’ll attend a more intimate $35,800-per-couple brunch at the home of a local real-estate executive, according to the Seattle Times.

Washington this year became the seventh state to legalize same-sex marriage, followed soon after by Maryland.

The marquee event on Obama’s fund-raising itinerary is an evening event at the Studio City home of actor George Clooney.

Organizers expect the event to gross $15 million for Obama’s reelection and the Democratic Party.

An online contest run generated most of that total, with two lucky contributors chosen to mingle with high-profile guests including Robert Downey Jr., Tobey Maguire and Barbra Streisand.

The president will remain in Los Angeles overnight.

Obama’s two-day trip ends Friday with an official White House event in Reno, a 2012 battleground state that now has the nation’s highest unemployment rate.
