Remember when Cher’s 2002 farewell tour became the can’t-say-goodbye tour that played through 2005? Well, it looks like she’s overcome her fear of farewells.
After 200 performances, a gazillion costume changes and enough bare flesh to make a sailor blush, the curtain finally drops Feb. 5 on Cher at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Cher will hand the keys to the Colosseum kingdom to Celine Dion, who begins a three-year residency March 15.
Fans may want to move quickly on Cher tickets. After a holiday-season hiatus, the Academy Award-winning singer-actress returns to the stage Jan. 11 for just 16 shows. No one knows what Cher and director/choreographer Doriana Sanchez have up their sleeves, but audiences can expect 90 minutes of chart-topping hits, ultra-glitzy Bob Mackie creations and nostalgia-inducing video montages.
The set list flashes back to the “Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour” era — Cher sings a touching video duet with her late ex-husband on “I Got You Babe” — and marches forward to the 1989 comeback hit “If I Could Turn Back Time.”
The traditional curtain closer is 1998’s smash, “Believe.” Of the hit tune, Cher has said: It’s “just that kind of magic song — like ‘I Got You Babe.’ Usually, you get one of those magic songs once in a career, I was lucky to get it twice.”
