An Anaheim man was arrested Saturday after attempting to return stolen merchandise to a Costco store in Fountain Valley, authorities said.
A police officer arriving at the scene, at 17900 Newhope Street, at 12:20 p.m. detained the man as he was attempting to run from the business, the Fountain Valley Police Department said in a news release.
The man became combative and tried to pull away from the officer, who injured his shoulder in the altercation, rendering his arm useless, the release said.
The officer and a store employee were able to detain the man, who was taken into custody, police said.
Chad Michael Mischler, 43, was booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of felony resisting arrest with injury to a police officer, shoplifting and two outstanding warrants.
The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
