Baseball: Derek Marshall hits two home runs in Loyola win over Harvard-Westlake

Loyola had a little inspiration on Wednesday for its Mission League baseball game against Harvard-Westlake. Senior Jake Peters, who has been confined to a wheelchair while dealing with an autoimmune disease and Type 1 diabetes, made an appearance at the game.
Derek Marshall hit two home runs for the Cubs in a 9-3 victory over Harvard-Westlake. Loyola (10-8, 6-2) stayed in first place. Joe Fortin contributed three hits. Blake Beers threw two shutout innings of relief. John Thomas had a home run and triple for Harvard-Westlake.
Crespi 7, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 0: Taylor Dollard threw a one-hitter in the Mission League game. Cameron Bolger went three for four. Danny Silva added two hits and three RBIs.
St. Francis 8, Alemany 7: The Golden Knights won their second Mission League game in eight innings, rallying from a 7-3 deficit in the seventh.
Servite 2, Orange Lutheran 1: The Friars pulled out the nine-inning victory over the No. 1-ranked Lancers. Aaron Simpson started the game with a leadoff home run against ace Chris Burica. Orange Lutheran tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out RBI single by Caleb Ricketts.
Servite took the lead again in the top of the ninth with a bases loaded walk. Then Mark Wonarowicz escaped a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth. He allowed one run in five innings of relief.
Santa Margarita 6, St. John Bosco 4: The Eagles improved to 3-2 in the Trinity League. Joey Myers had two hits and two RBIs. Jared Witt added two RBIs.
JSerra 9, Santa Ana Mater Dei 1: Micah Pries hit two doubles and Chase Strumpf and Royce Lewis each hit home runs in JSerra’s Trinity League win. Collin Quinn allowed one run in six innings.
Mission Viejo 7, San Juan Hills 3: It took 11 innings before the Diablos prevailed. Tanner Bibee had a home run, double and three RBIs. Joey Garman threw four shutout innings of relief.
Newbury Park 2, Oaks Christian 1: Chris Clarke struck out six, walked none and threw a three-hitter to lead the Panthers to a Marmonte League upset of first-place Oaks Christian.
Westlake 8, Agoura 6: Tyler Flores hit two home runs and Jackson Kritsch had four RBIs for Westlake.
Calabasas 5, Thousand Oaks 1: Grant Nechak struck out five in a complete-game performance. Shawn Goosenberg had two hits and two RBIs.
Simi Valley 8, Moorpark 1: Blake Shannon, Cal Hodgins, Abbott Haffar and Timothy Walgren each had two hits. Kody McLain threw a complete game.
Oak Park 3, Camarillo 2: Griffin Melnick had a game-winning two-run single.
Bellflower 5, Mayfair 4: Freshman Josh Montero picked up the winning hit to rally Bellflower to the Suburban League win.
Foothill 1, El Modena 0: Carson Herrell and Matthew O’Donoghue combined for the shutout.
Aliso Niguel 2, Tesoro 1: Zak Nocon threw a five-hitter. Hunter Jump drove in both runs for Aliso Niguel.
El Toro 12, Capistrano Valley 2: Gavin Garcia had two hits and three RBIs for El Toro. Austin Green threw a complete game.
Esperanza 7, Villa Park 6: Eric Bigani had the walk-off single in the seventh for Esperanza.
Quartz Hill 20, Highland 5: A 12-run first inning sparks the Rebels in a five-inning Golden League victory. Freshman Jeovanny Delgado had four hits.
Temescal Canyon 7, Heritage 2: Elijah Davis gave up two hits in six innings. Temescal Canyon is 5-0 in the Sunkist League.
Saugus 4, Valencia 3: Rudy Aguilar hit a walk-off hit for Saugus. Joey Mendez went three for three in the Foothill League win. Caden Salked threw four shutout innings of relief. Ben Fariss had a two-run home run for Valencia.
West Ranch 8, Hart 5: Cade Spurlin had a three-run home run and Jason Drees had a two-run home run for West Ranch. Sam Gray went four for four.
Golden Valley 10, Canyon 5: Leon Jackson hit a three-run home run for Golden Valley.
Mira Costa 8, Peninsula 2: Trevor Franklin struck out 10 in a complete game. Blake Hammerstein had two RBIs.
Redondo 21, Morningside 0: Redondo improved to 19-0. Marco Valenzuela had four RBIs.
Sun Valley Poly 10, Monroe 0: Ruben Dominguez contributed two hits and two RBIs. Alex Leon gave up two hits while striking out four.
Verdugo Hills 10, Grant 0: Charlie Rocca had two RBIs for the Dons.
Edison 6, Marina 1: Kaz Akamatsu went three for three with two RBIs in the Sunset League win. Vince Inman threw six innings, striking out four.
Huntington Beach 13, Newport Harbor 8: Trevor Windisch, Landon Silver and Dylan Palmer had home runs for the Oilers.
Fountain Valley 3, Los Alamitos 2: Trent Sievers had the game-winning hit in the eighth for Fountain Valley.
Cypress 9, Western 1: James Acuna struck out nine for Cypress. Ryan McCanless hit a home run.
King 5, Corona Santiago 3: Kevin West had two hits for King.
South Hills 10, Diamond Bar 5: Aaron Fong had four hits in the eight-inning win.
Ayala 14, Claremont 9: Joe Naranjo went four for four with five RBIs.
