How does a team go from being unranked to playing for a state championship without getting any transfers?
Crespi High has done it the old fashion way _ developing unsung players over the course of the season in a terrific coaching job by Russell White.
The Celts (28-7) will play Sacramento Capital Christian (27-8) for the Division IV championship at noon on Saturday at Haas Pavilion.
Unlike some programs, Crespi’s rise has been out there for all to see. Every game, the Celts post their stats on MaxPreps.com. They have nothing to hide.
You can see that junior De’Anthony Melton is averaging 15.5 points and 9.1 rebounds. You can see that junior Mitch Mykhaylov is averaging 10.3 points and 7.1 rebounds. You can see that among four freshmen receiving playing time, Brandon Williams and Taj Regans have been outstanding. And you can know that this is just the beginning for the Celts. They have big plans for next season with all their returnees.
