Corona Centennial’s big three consisting of 6-foot-10 Jalen Hill, 6-10 Ike Anigbogu and guard Jordan Griffin were at their best on Tuesday night, and Eastvale Roosevelt couldn’t come up with a response in dropping a 73-60 decision to the Huskies.
Centennial (17-6, 6-1) pulled into a tie for first place with Roosevelt (18-6, 6-1) in the Big VIII League.
Griffin scored 27 points, Hill had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Anigbogu added 15 points and several blocked shots.
Jemarl Baker and Matt Mitchell, a pair of impressive juniors, finished with 20 and 19 points, respectively for Roosevelt. Their early foul trouble enbabled Centennial to open a 32-16 lead in the second quarter, and Roosevelt never recovered.
Both teams are headed for the Southern Section Open Division playoffs. It was a physical game, with lots of offensive fouls called.
But when Centennial gets its inside-outside combination going, the Huskies are tough to beat. Griffin, a Long Beach State signee, made five threes.
