Jericho Flowers had quite a first half for Hamilton in giving the Yankees a 23-9 halftime lead over Sylmar in the City Section Division II final at the Coliseum.
On the opening kickoff, he took the ball out of the hands of Russell Shaw going down at the 35 and completed an 86-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
In the second quarter, he caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Shaw on a reverse.
Then, on the final play of the second quarter, Sylmar’s Danny Mendoza tried to convert on a 44-yard field-goal attempt. The kick was short, and Flowers picked up the ball at the three and ran 97 yards for a touchdown.
