Funeral on Friday for former Loyola team doctor Richard Vanis

A funeral Mass will be held Friday at noon at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Pasadena for Richard Vanis, who served as the team physician for Loyola High’s football team for many years. He died on July 19. He was 68.

Vanis graduated from Loyola in 1964, was student body president and played football on Loyola’s 1962 and 1963 championship teams. He went on to attend UCLA and became an orthopedic surgeon.

Five of his sons went on to play football for Loyola.
