Glendora makes another move to show it supports multiple-sport athletes

Glendora is showing it supports multiple-sport athlete with a simple move. Football Coach Jerry Lewallen has become an assistant coach with the baseball team.

“There’s so much specialization going on and then the reality what we hear and know and the way we grew up, you’d do multiple things. You cross train,” said Glendora baseball Coach Dan Henley. “We’ve always had that mantra at Glendora, so we’ve always had to share athletes and it’s worked out.”

So why not share coaches?

“It’s great having him wanting to do both,” Henley said. “He’s a baseball-football guy.”

Glendora already has on its team a football player, Army-bound second baseman Caleb Watkins, the standout kicker who will be a three-year starter in baseball.

So if you see a football around the dugout at Glendora, don’t get worried. It’s probably Watkins demonstrating kicking ability or Lewallen looking for a quarterback to replace Matt Fink, now at USC.
