Sophomore Nomar Ibarra of L.A. Cathedral is going to be a popular student around campus.
It was his goal in the 51st minute on Saturday night off an assist from junior Jacob Skarr that lifed the Phantoms to a 1-0 road victory over Concord De La Salle.
Yes, a Southern California team finally beat De La Salle but it was futbol, not football.
Cathedral, ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division 3, is 5-0-1 and will play next week in the National Showcase tournament in Oceanside with a Dec. 28 opening game against neighborhood rival Loyola, one of the top teams in Division 1.
