Track: Matt Katnik’s consistency continues at Southern Section prelims

The consistency of St. John Bosco shot putter Matt Katnik has been pretty remarkable this season.
He has been reaching above 70 feet and it continued at Saturday’s Southern Section Division 3 track and field prelims, where he led qualifers with an effort of 71-3 1/2 at Estancia High.
Chaminade’s T.J. Brock led qualifiers in the 100 with a time of 10.43 and the 200 in 21.13. Alemany’s Dominic Davis ran 10.48. In the girls’ 100, Monrovia’s Jordyn Tucker had the fastest time of 11.84 and also was best in the 200 in 24.66.
In the girls’ long jump, Courtney Corrin of Harvard-Westlake went 19-9.
In Division 1, Vista Murrieta’s Michael Norman cruised in the 400 at 48.18 and in the 200 at 20.95. In the 800, Great Oak’s Isaac Cortes recorded a sizzling time of 1:51.8. Loyola’s Robert Brandt recorded quality marks in the 1,600 (4:09.06) and 3,200 (9:00.90).
The Southern Section finals are set for Saturday at Cerritos College.
