Redshirt freshman Max Wittek, who will start at quarterback for USC against top-ranked Notre Dame, is also part of a compelling Trojans-Fighting Irish subplot.
Wittek’s father, Kurt, is business partners in commercial real estate with Notre Dame legend Joe Montana.
Kurt Wittek said he and Montana have not talked at length about Saturday’s game at the Coliseum.
“We haven’t really said anything yet, specifically,” Kurt Wittek said. “We’ve just kind of mentioned, ‘Well, here we go.’”
Max Wittek is replacing senior Matt Barkley, who suffered a shoulder sprain in last week’s 38-28 loss against UCLA.
He has completed eight of nine passes for 95 yards, including a touchdown.
