Bid cities submit plans for a less expensive 2022 Winter Olympics

The cities of Beijing and Almaty, Kazakhstan, have submitted their plans for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Officials delivered the detailed proposals to the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday, saying that they have adhered to a new reform package that seeks to make the Games more efficient and affordable for host cities.
“The important concept of running athlete-centered, economical and sustainable Games will be represented in our bid and actual organization of the Games in 2022,” said Wang Anshun, president of Beijing’s bid committee.
Before the reforms were approved late last year, several countries withdrew from the running for 2022, leaving only two candidates.
“Today is an important day for the Olympic Winter Games in 2022 because we will now have the opportunity to see the vision of the candidate cities,” IOC President Thomas Bach said.
IOC members will vote to select the winning city this summer.
