Well it was bound to happen -- the Philadelphia 76ers finally won a game this season.
The 76ers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves, 85–77, in Minneapolis on Wednesday night to snap their 17-game losing streak to open the season and avoid tying the NBA’s record for worst start by one game.
Michael Carter-Williams almost had a triple-double with 20 points, nine rebounds and nine assists to help Philadelphia escape tying the 0-18 start by the New Jersey Nets in the 2009-10 season.
Social media rejoiced for the win with thousands of good-natured tweets congratulating the team.
The popular Twitter account, “Did the Sixers Win,” was finally able to tweet “Yes.” As of 8 p.m., the tweet had more than 5,000 re-tweets.
The hashtag #SixersWin began trending in the U.S. shortly after the game.
