Private beach upgrades at Princess Cays adds Wi-Fi and new cruise excursions

Princess Cays, a private beach-side hideaway in the outer Bahamas, is a bit dreamier these days, thanks to recent renovations by Princess Cruises.
The 40-acre park, which includes more than a mile-and-a-half of shoreline, is a featured call on the cruise line’s Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. It has been open since 1992 and was ranked among the Top Cruise Line Private Island Destinations by Cruise Critic last year.
The Cays rehab is the latest in a series of private island improvement programs undertaken by major cruise lines eager to please passengers sailing in the lucrative Caribbean market.
Private islands became an important part of cruise lines’ itineraries more than two decades ago, and several have completed fix-up projects or are in the midst of them.
The Princess renovations and enhancements include adding WiFi, making the Cays one of the only cruise industry private islands where you can Instagram or Facebook your fun to friends and family back home in real time.
Additional improvements include refurbished retail and bar areas, improved landscaping and new excursions, including clear-bottom kayaking, bicycling and a marine life encounter that allows guests to touch and feed stingrays.
There’s also an expanded marina that accommodates larger tenders and has a shaded security area.
