If the Great Barrier Reef off northeastern Australia is on your must-do list for 2016, Air New Zealand has a $1,207 round-trip fare, including all taxes and fees, from LAX to Cairns, the gateway to the reef.
The reef, which is made up of about 2,900 reefs, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1981.
You must buy your ticket by Nov. 16, and the fare is subject to availability.
It is for travel May 1 to June 21 or July 25 to Sept. 21 next year. (Remember, Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere so its seasons are the reverse of ours.)
