Southern California events for March 23-25 look forward and backward

Science, spring and the Renaissance are the main themes for next weekend, but you could also head to a food festival or hang out with the regatta crowd.
Pasadena
Be amazed by interactive experiments and intriguing exhibits at the 68th L.A. County Science and Engineering Fair at the Pasadena Convention Center. Students in grades 6 to 12 from 150 L.A. schools demonstrate their creativity and burgeoning skills at scientific investigation. The fair is a way to see what the scientists and engineers of the future might develop.

Palm Desert
Taste food, wine and beer created by nationally recognized chefs, vintners and brewers at the eighth Palm Desert Food & Wine festival at the El Paseo shopping district. More than 40 restaurants will offer tastings, and visitors can sample wines, spirits and brews from more than 60 adult-beverage producers. Watch cooking demonstrations such as “An American Kitchen With an Indian Soul.”

Lompoc
Wear your medieval princess gown or your knight’s chain mail to the Renaissance Faire at River Park. Visitors can watch jousting by the Knights of Mayhem and listen to live entertainment on two stages. Costumed craft vendors and artisans will sell goods from various guilds.

San Diego
More than 4,000 athletes from college, juniors and masters teams will compete in the San Diego Crew Classic’s 45th Regatta on Mission Bay. Other activities include a pasta dinner on Friday and a brunch on Sunday. Women are invited to wear spring hats to brunch.

Lancaster
If you like airplanes, check out the L.A. County Air Show at Gen. William J. Fox Airfield. Visitors can watch planes in the sky, play with interactive science-focused attractions and look at educational exhibits focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). Panel discussions cover stealth aircraft, U-2s, the 75th anniversary of Skunk Works and more.

Moorpark
Take a photo with the Easter bunny, play country games, watch animal races and applaud at the animal shows at the Springtime Easter Festival at Underwood Family Farms.
