If you go
THE BEST WAY TO ARCHES NATIONAL PARK, UTAH
From Los Angeles, the best way to get there is to drive. Just take Interstate 15 all the way to Utah and pick up Interstate 70, turn south on Highway 191 and follow the signs to Moab. It also is possible to fly to Las Vegas, Salt Lake City or Grand Junction, Colo., where rental cars are available.
WHERE TO STAY
The Devils Garden Campground in Arches National Park (www.nps.gov/arch) has 50 individual sites that are $20 per night and can accommodate up to 10 people. For reservations, call (877) 444-6777 or go to https://www.recreation.gov. For a list of campgrounds in the Moab area, go to www.discovermoab.com.
If sleeping in a bed works best for you, Moab is full of hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts. For suggestions, go to https://www.moab-utah.com. During spring and fall, reservations are suggested. In summer, they are essential. We stayed at the Aarchway Inn (1551 N. Highway 191, Moab; [800] 341-9359, www.aarchwayinn.com), which is almost on the park’s doorstep, and were pleased.
WHERE TO EAT
Moab has everything from fast food to fine dining. We found the ribs and wings at the Blue Pig (811 S. Main St.; [435] 259-3333, https://www.blupigbbq.com) to be excellent.
