The Florida Department of Insurance offers many educational brochures, including “Natural Disasters: Your Guide to Insurance Preparation and Recovery” and “Insuring Your Home Consumers’ Guide.” Call 1-800-342-2762.
The Insurance Information Institute has similar publications, including “Taking Inventory,” “Hurricane Awareness” and “Settling Insurance Claims After A Disaster.” Send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the institute at 110 Williams St., New York, N.Y. 10038, Attention: Free Brochure; 212-669-9200; or information is available online at www.iii.org.
The American Red Cross is another repository of pamphlets, including “Before Disaster Strikes” and “Preparing Your Home for a Hurricane.” They are available in most Red Cross offices.
