A painting by French artist Henri Fantin-Latour--once owned by Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos--was auctioned by the Philippine government to an unidentified buyer earlier this month for for $400,000. The painting, “Sweetpeas” was discovered in New York in the Marcos’ Olympic Towers apartment, which the Philippine government won in a lawsuit. The proceeds from the art sale will go to the Philippine national treasury. In January, Christie’s will auction off some furniture, silverware and decorative art objects seized from Marcos properties including several other pieces of art of thought to be worth more than the Fantin-Latour work.
