New Building Rules Favor Old West Look
Future development in Old Town Calabasas will have to mirror the Old West theme of the area under rules approved Thursday by Los Angeles County supervisors.
The rules give county planners the power to require that new buildings have wood or stucco exteriors and have modest signs.
Only one developer, Calabasas Junction Ltd., had asked to be excluded from the rules. The firm wanted to demolish a turn-of-the-century wooden store to make way for a three-story office building.
Community residents protested. The county turned down the request and imposed temporary building restrictions, which remained in place nearly a year.
