BASEBALL REPORT : DAILY UPDATE : ANGELS : Pain in Right Hamstring Forces Winfield to Take Himself Out
- Share via
Dave Winfield took himself out of Tuesday’s lineup after feeling tightness in his right hamstring.
Winfield said he first experienced a twinge on Saturday, the night he hit a career-best three home runs at Minnesota. He sat out Sunday but played Monday and was 0 for 4.
Max Venable replaced Winfield in right field Tuesday. Dave Parker, who was hitting fifth in the original lineup, moved up to the cleanup spot.
“I feel it when I run and running is a big part of my game,” said Winfield, who incurred the injury while running out a ground ball in the eighth inning Saturday. “I don’t like to do this or even talk about it. This is a big series. But I don’t want this to get any worse.”
Winfield, who is hitting .346 with a team-leading three homers and 12 RBIs, said his status is day-to-day.
