SPORTS ON WEEKEND TV : French Open, Dodgers vs. Reds

This Sunday’s Lakers-Chicago Bulls NBA Finals opener (12:30 p.m., Channels 4, 36 and 39) is not the weekend’s lone sporting event, with baseball, boxing and tennis among the other viewing choices.
Baseball: The Dodgers will play host to the Cincinnati Reds at 7 p.m. tonight on SportsChannel. The Angels will visit the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on KTLA Channel 5.
Cal State Long Beach will open play today in the College World Series against Wichita State at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN. CBS (Channels 2 and 8), will bypass major league baseball today for a Clemson-Creighton College World Series game at 10 a.m. ESPN will also air games at 1:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
Tennis: ESPN will continue its live coverage of the French Open today at 6 a.m. NBC (Channels 4, 36, 39) will report on a delayed basis beginning today at noon and Sunday at 9 a.m.
Boxing: Meldrick Taylor will defend his World Boxing Assn. welterweight championship against Luis Garcia and World Boxing Council super-welterweight titlist Terry Norris will fight Donald Curry at 7 p.m. tonight on HBO. Today’s Wide World of Sports (4:30 p.m. Channels 7, 3 and 42; 3:30 p.m. Channel 10) will replay March 18’s controversial Mike Tyson-Donovan (Razor) Ruddock heavyweight bout.
Football: The World League of American Football will kick off its inaugural post-season with the Birmingham Fire playing host to the Barcelona Dragons in a semifinal game at 5 p.m. today on USA. The London Monarchs will visit the New York/New Jersey Knights in the other semifinal at noon Sunday on Channels 7, 10 and 42.
Arena Football opens its fifth season with Prime Ticket’s live coverage of a New Orleans Night-Albany Firebirds game at 5 p.m. today.
